It’s this time of the year: It’s getting colder outside, rain is paying us a more frequent visit, and autumn is knocking on our doors. In the first days of fall, I always struggle with what to wear as my summer clothes no longer warm me. Which makes September a great month to revisit our warmer garments and to rethink and restructure our wardrobes: Which items do we need to store away? Which pieces might need mending? Can we think of new combinations for our clothes and accessories, or interesting ways of layering? Is there a new or a second-hand item of clothing that will be the missing link for a new favourite outfit? It’s time to get creative!

To give you some inspiration, Lissome’s fashion editor and stylist Sophia Schwan shares her favourite tips for looking sharp whilst layering up and keeping cosy:

TURTLENECK + SUMMER DRESS

Turtlenecks under silk dresses or billowing summer dresses paired with jeans give a great contrast of hard and soft and mean that you can continue wearing your summer dresses for a little longer.

THE NECKERCHIEF

Introduce a neckerchief or a light silk scarf to your fall wardrobe.

LAYERING TOPS

Off the shoulder tops can be layered with a plain t-shirt underneath.

WARM UP YOUR T-SHIRTS

You don’t have to pack away your t-shirts just yet. Pair them with an oversized cardigan or jacket and roll up the sleeves a little bit. Pair it with a pair of jeans, trousers or skirt!

MIDI SKIRTS + OVERSIZED JUMPERS

Your midi skirts can be transitioned into fall with a relaxed sweatshirt or jumper. You could even throw a classic dress shirt into the mix.

COLOURFUL SOCKS

Roll up your jeans or boot leg trousers and pair them with a pair of colourful socks and shoes of choice.
